Is a carbon monoxide test included?
Yes. Every ducted gas heater service includes a carbon monoxide safety check — we test for CO spillage and inspect the heat exchanger for cracks, because a faulty exchanger can leak carbon monoxide into the home.
How often should a ducted gas heater be serviced?
Every two years at a minimum, and ideally once a year before winter — so the burner, heat exchanger and controls are checked and a carbon monoxide test is done before you rely on it.
Can you clean the ducts at the same visit?
Yes — and most people should. A serviced heater still blows through the same ducts, so we service the heater and clean the ducts, vents and return air in one visit, on one quote.
Why does my heating smell when I first turn it on?
Usually dust that settled on the heater and in the ducts over the warmer months burning off. It should fade — if it keeps coming back, the heater and ducts are due. A gas smell is different: turn the heater off and call for help.
How often should the ducts be cleaned?
Every 2 to 3 years for most homes — every 2 years with pets or allergy sufferers at home.
