Why it matters

Old insulation can be doing more harm than nothing at all

Decades-old loose-fill and batts settle, compress and lose most of their R-value β€” so you’re paying to heat and cool a home that’s barely insulated. Worse, contaminated insulation can hold rodent droppings, dust and moisture directly above your living space.

Simply laying new batts on top traps all of that in place. The right first step is full removal: extracting the old material, cleaning the cavity, and only then installing fresh insulation onto a clean, sound surface.

FreshDuct uses industrial vacuum extraction to remove the old material cleanly β€” no dragging it through your home β€” and leaves the roof space photographed, clean and ready to re-insulate.

FAQ

Insulation removal β€” common questions

Should I remove old insulation or top it up?

If it’s settled, damaged, wet or contaminated, removal is the right first step β€” topping up just seals the problem in. If it’s clean and simply thin, a top-up may be enough. We’ll advise honestly after inspecting.

How do you keep the mess out of my home?

We use industrial vacuum extraction that draws the material straight out to the vehicle, with access and pathways protected β€” rather than dragging bags through your rooms.

Can you remove rodent-affected insulation?

Yes β€” this is one of the most common reasons we’re called. We extract the contaminated material and leave the cavity clean and inspectable.

What about asbestos?

If we suspect asbestos-containing material we stop and advise the correct licensed pathway β€” we never disturb it unsafely.

Do you re-insulate after removal?

Yes β€” most customers remove and re-insulate in one visit, so the new batts go straight onto a clean cavity.
