Air duct cleaning in Northcote

Renovation country, renovation dust

Northcote, in the City of Darebin, is full of Edwardian weatherboards and interwar Californian bungalows, with High Street running through the middle. It’s also one of the inner north’s busiest renovation suburbs: back extensions, second storeys and full restorations are everywhere.

Renovations and ducted heating don’t always mix well. Floor outlets get left open while walls are sanded and ceilings patched, extensions get new ducting joined onto old runs under the house, and the dust from months of building work waits in the system until the first cold night.

If you’ve just finished a renovation, or your neighbours have, the ducts are often the last thing anyone thinks to clean.

Local homes

How Northcote homes are usually ducted

Edwardian weatherboards

Floor outlets with ducting under the house. We clean each outlet and boot and check the runs we can reach.

Californian bungalows

Often floor outlets in the original rooms and ceiling outlets in a later extension.

Renovated and extended homes

Old and new runs joined together, sometimes with a second system for an upstairs addition.

What we find

Three things we see a lot in Northcote

1

Renovation dust left in the ducts

Plaster and sanding dust from building work settles in open outlets and comes out when the heating starts.

2

Old runs joined to new

Extensions tie new ducting into older systems, and the joins are where leaks and dust traps form.

3

Damp under weatherboards

Ducts under older timber homes can pick up damp dust and the occasional rodent.

Quick self-check

Signs a Northcote home is due for a duct clean

  • You’ve just finished renovating If the outlets weren’t sealed during the work, renovation dust is almost certainly in the ducts.
  • White or grey dust from the floor vents Plaster dust blowing out of a floor outlet is a clear sign.
  • The extension feels colder than the old part Where new ducting joins old, leaks can starve a room of air.
  • A musty smell from the floor grilles Damp dust in underfloor ducts smells stale when the heating starts.

Repairs

Duct repair & replacement in Northcote

Renovations are the biggest cause of duct damage we see in Northcote: runs crushed by trades under the floor, outlets moved and left disconnected, and new ducting taped onto old.

We photograph any damage we find while cleaning, explain it and quote the repair before we touch it. If a run only needs reconnecting, that’s all we’ll quote.

Duct repair & replacement across Melbourne

Duct cleaning vs duct replacement: which do you need?

What we check and fix

  • Crushed, torn or disconnected ducts found and photographed
  • Repairs quoted before any work
  • Whole runs replaced only when they’re past saving
  • Outlet boots, grilles and return-air fittings refitted or replaced
Heating

Ducted heating cleaning before a Northcote winter

Old weatherboards lose heat quickly, so ducted heating in Northcote runs long hours in winter. Any renovation dust sitting in the ducts gets blown straight into the room.

A clean before winter, especially after building work, clears the outlets, ducts and filter. We can book a heater service at the same visit.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Cannot find your answer? We pick up 7 days a week — straight answers, no pressure. 04 3191 8137
We’ve just finished renovating. Should we clean the ducts?

Yes, especially if the outlets weren’t sealed during the work. Plaster and sanding dust is very fine and spreads through the house when the heating runs.

We’ve added an upstairs with its own system. Do you clean that too?

Yes. We clean ducted reverse cycle, ducted gas and evaporative systems, including newer systems in upstairs additions, and quote each one upfront.

Should we clean during the renovation or after?

After. Cleaning while work is still going means the ducts fill up again. Seal the outlets during the work, then clean once the trades have left.

Do you cover Thornbury and Fairfield?

Yes. Thornbury, Fairfield, Westgarth, Croxton and Alphington are all on our regular run.

Can dirty ducts cause a musty smell?

Yes. Dust and debris in the ducts and on the return-air filter hold odours, and damp ducts can grow mould. A whole-system clean removes the build-up; if there’s a moisture problem behind it, we’ll show you.

Do you clean commercial premises?

Yes — offices, clinics, shops and strata common areas. Tell us about the site in the form and we’ll arrange an inspection and quote.

When do I pay?

After the job is done and you’ve seen the before & after photos. Cash, card or bank transfer.

What if I’m not happy?

Tell us. If something isn’t right, we come back and re-clean — that’s our 100% satisfaction commitment.

Are your technicians insured and police-checked?

Yes. Police-checked technicians, NDIS Worker Screening checks, and full public liability and business insurance.
