When a chimney is leaning, crumbling or structurally unsafe, repair isn’t enough. FreshDuct rebuilds chimney stacks — partial or full — to make them safe, sound and weather-tight again.
Leaning or crumbling chimney? Don’t risk it — get it assessed.
Some chimneys are simply past saving. When the brickwork has lost its bond over large areas, the stack is leaning, or decades of water damage have left the masonry crumbling, patching it is unsafe and uneconomical. FreshDuct rebuilds the chimney — partially from a sound point, or fully — so it’s structurally sound and weather-tight again.
A rebuild is also the chance to do it right: a properly sloped crown, a fitted cap, correct flashing and a sound flue built in from the start, so the new stack is far more durable than the old one. On period homes we match brick and detail to keep the character.
We assess the structure thoroughly first — sometimes only the top section above the roofline needs rebuilding, which is more economical than a full rebuild. We’ll tell you honestly what’s required.
Noticing any of these? It is worth booking an inspection.

We assess how far the damage goes. Often only the exposed section above the roofline has failed, and a partial rebuild from a sound base restores safety at a fraction of a full rebuild’s cost. Where the whole stack has gone, we rebuild it properly.
Either way we build in the things that make a chimney durable — a sloped crown, a cap, correct flashing and a sound flue — and match the brickwork on period homes. Scaffolded, documented and done safely.
A sound, weather-tight stack, built properly:
If the chimney is structurally sound and only weather-damaged, a restoration may be all it needs — we’ll always recommend the lesser job where it’s safe.
Damaged masonry replaced with matched, properly built brickwork.
A safe, documented, end-to-end service — every job.
Visual, camera or drone inspection of the chimney and flue.
We pinpoint the real cause and explain it clearly.
Only what is needed, done properly and safely.
We confirm clearances, draw and a safe result.

Site left clean, with honest advice.
A chimney is a heavy column of masonry sitting high on your roof. When it leans or the brickwork loses its bond, that weight becomes a hazard — bricks can fall, and in the worst case a section can collapse, damaging the roof or worse. It’s not a fault to live with.
Rebuilding removes that risk and resets the clock: a properly built stack with a sloped crown, a cap and correct flashing is far more durable than the failing one it replaces, and protects everything below it — the flue, the firebox and your roof.
The cheapest quote rarely includes inspection, containment, photo proof or proper work.
| Standard | Rushed / cheap | FreshDuct |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection | Skipped or rushed | Visual, camera or drone |
| Mess control | Soot left in the room | Drop sheets + contained vacuum |
| Root cause | Symptom only | Diagnosed & explained |
| Workmanship | Patch-ups | Done properly, to standard |
| Proof | None | Before & after photo report |
“Rebuild” sounds like the whole chimney, but often it isn’t. The section most exposed to weather — the stack above the roofline — is usually the first and worst to fail, while the masonry inside the roof and below remains sound. In those cases a partial rebuild from a solid base restores safety for a fraction of a full rebuild’s cost.
Our job is to work out exactly how far the failure goes and rebuild only what genuinely needs it — not to over-quote a full rebuild when a partial one is safe, and not to patch a stack that’s truly unsafe. That honest assessment is the whole value of getting it looked at properly.
When we do rebuild, we build in durability the original often lacked: a crown that’s sloped and overhangs to shed water, a fitted cap, correct flashing, and a sound flue. The new stack should outlast the old one comfortably.
And on Melbourne’s many period and heritage homes, we match the brick, bond and detailing so a rebuilt chimney still looks like it belongs — restoring the rooflines that give these houses their character while making them safe. Where a chimney is sound but tired, we’ll steer you to restoration instead.

When it’s leaning, the brickwork has lost its bond over large areas, or it’s crumbling beyond patching. We assess and tell you honestly.
