“Allen provided exceptional service — friendly, professional and went above and beyond.”
FreshDuct cleans and services Regency fireplaces across Melbourne — wood inserts and freestanding units, including the large-glass models with convection blowers that need more than a brush down the flue.
Insert with a fan that has gone noisy or stopped? That is a service item, not a fault you live with.
Regency Fireplace Products manufactures premium gas and wood burning fireplaces, and its Australian operation is based at Dandenong South in Victoria. The units we service in Melbourne homes are typically modern, well-built appliances with three characteristics that shape the service: a large glass viewing area, a clean-burn secondary combustion system, and in many cases a convection blower.
Large glass is a design decision with maintenance consequences. A wide viewing area only looks good if the airwash keeps the whole face clear, and airwash on a wide door depends on an even air curtain across the full width of the glass. Any partial blockage in the air channel shows up as a dark band or a dirty corner, and on a big door that is immediately obvious in a way it never is on a small one.
The clean-burn system is what makes a modern appliance efficient: preheated air is introduced above the fuel bed so the volatile gases burn inside the firebox instead of going up the flue as smoke. It works well, and it depends entirely on those air passages staying clear. When they block with ash, the appliance keeps burning but stops burning cleanly, and everything downstream of that gets worse at once.
The blower is the item most often neglected. Insert models rely on a fan to push heated air out of the convection cavity into the room, because an insert sits inside an opening and cannot radiate the way a freestanding unit does. Fans accumulate dust, bearings wear, and a noisy fan gets switched off and forgotten. We clean the fan and its air path, and if a fan has genuinely failed we say so rather than leaving you with an insert that only heats the chimney.

Modern appliance, modern failure points.
A large glass face needs an even air curtain from end to end. Dark bands, a dirty corner or one side clouding faster than the other point to a partly blocked airwash channel rather than to your firewood. We clear the full channel and check the door is closing squarely, because a door sitting slightly askew ruins the air curtain on one side.
Secondary combustion depends on preheated air reaching the top of the firebox through clear passages. Ash and fly debris block them gradually, and the appliance stops burning cleanly long before anyone notices. We clear these passages on every service and photograph their condition with the baffle out.
Insert models push their heat out with a fan. We clean the blower and its housing, clear the inlet and outlet air paths, and check that it runs quietly across its speed range. A fan that has been switched off because it rattles is costing you a large share of the appliance output every time you light it.
An insert vents through a flue running up inside the existing opening or chimney, and that connection sits out of sight behind the unit. We check the seal at the appliance spigot and the condition of the flue above it, because a leak there vents into the cavity rather than up the flue.
Modern appliances are designed to be genuinely airtight, and their performance figures assume they are. A tired rope seal or a perished glass gasket lets in uncontrolled air, which defeats the air controls and the clean-burn system together. We test the seal all the way round and replace where it has hardened.
FreshDuct recommends an annual sweep and full service before the season, including the blower and clean-burn passages rather than the flue alone. On a modern appliance the flue is often the cleanest part of the system, and servicing only the flue misses most of what has actually degraded.

On a Regency wood appliance we sweep the flue, strip the firebox, pull and inspect the baffle and firebricks, clear the clean-burn and airwash passages, clean the convection blower and its air path, test and replace door rope, and check the glass and gasket. Photographed and reported on the day.
Regency also makes gas fireplaces. On those, FreshDuct cleans and inspects the flue system and the non-gas serviceable components only. In Victoria, work on the gas-carrying parts of an appliance is a licensed trade regulated by Energy Safe Victoria and must be done by a licensed gasfitter. FreshDuct has no affiliation with Regency and is not its agent or authorised repairer; warranty work and manufacturer-supplied parts go through Regency or your dealer.
Book a Regency ServiceWe service Regency fireplaces across metropolitan Melbourne. Modern large-glass inserts are concentrated in renovated and newly built homes through Camberwell, Balwyn, Hawthorn, Kew, Malvern, Brighton, Doncaster and Mount Waverley, where a contemporary insert has gone into a reworked living area.
Freestanding models are more common further out through Ringwood, Croydon, Eltham, Warrandyte, the Yarra Valley and the Dandenong Ranges. The service differs meaningfully between the two: an insert has a blower and a concealed flue connection to deal with, and a freestanding unit has an accessible flue and radiates directly.
A modern appliance service, blower included.
Insert or freestanding, wood or gas. That sets the scope.
Work area covered and extraction running before we open anything.
Full length swept, spigot connection and seal checked.
Clean-burn passages and airwash channels opened up.
Fan and housing cleaned, air paths cleared, operation checked.
Rope and gasket tested, then photos and a written condition note.

Services that pair with a modern insert or freestanding appliance.
Often yes. Most blower noise is dust build-up in the fan and housing or debris in the air path, and cleaning resolves it. Where the noise is a worn bearing rather than contamination, we will tell you the fan itself needs replacing rather than charging you for a clean that will not fix it. A fan switched off because it rattles is costing you most of the appliance output.
That pattern almost always means the airwash channel is partly blocked on the dark side, or the door is not closing squarely so the air curtain is uneven across the glass. It is rarely the firewood, because fuel affects the whole face evenly. We clear the full channel and check door closure as part of the service.
No. FreshDuct is an independent chimney and fireplace service company with no affiliation to Regency Fireplace Products or its dealers. We clean, sweep, inspect and service the appliance and its flue. Warranty work and manufacturer parts go through Regency or your dealer.
We clean and inspect the flue system and the non-gas serviceable components. In Victoria the gas-carrying parts of any appliance may legally only be worked on by a licensed gasfitter under Energy Safe Victoria, so that portion is scoped to a licensed gasfitter. We will be explicit about which parts of the job are ours and which are not.
Yes, and on a modern appliance the flue is often the cleanest part of the system. What degrades is the clean-burn air passages blocking with ash, the blower filling with dust, and the door seal hardening. Servicing only the flue on one of these appliances misses almost everything that has actually changed.
Flue, clean-burn passages, airwash and convection blower all serviced, photographed and reported.
