Air duct cleaning in Footscray

Inner west, inner-west dust

Footscray, in the City of Maribyrnong, is one of Melbourne’s oldest working suburbs. Victorian and Edwardian workers’ cottages and weatherboards fill the streets around the station and the market, and new apartment buildings keep rising near the river and the town centre.

The inner west is busy country: freight routes, the port and industrial areas nearby put a lot of fine dust into the air. Return-air filters in Footscray homes go grey quickly, and the ducts behind them follow.

Renovated cottages often have ducted heating squeezed under the floor or into a low roof, while apartments run compact ducted reverse cycle in ceiling bulkheads. Both are easy to forget about, and both benefit from a proper clean.

Local homes

How Footscray homes are usually ducted

Victorian and Edwardian cottages

Small homes with ducted heating fitted under the floor in a renovation, often with the heater itself in the subfloor.

Converted shops and terraces

Homes above or behind old shopfronts, with ducting routed around party walls and old structure.

New apartment buildings

Compact ducted reverse cycle with a small ceiling filter that darkens quickly in inner-west air.

What we find

Three things we see a lot in Footscray

1

Freight and port dust

Truck routes, the port and nearby industry keep fine dark dust in the air. Filters and outlets here darken quickly.

2

Restumped and relevelled cottages

When an old cottage is restumped, the floor moves and underfloor ducting can pull away from its outlets.

3

New apartments, building dust

Apartments in new buildings often start with plaster and building dust already in the ducts.

Quick self-check

Signs a Footscray home is due for a duct clean

  • Black dust on the window sills Dark dust that returns soon after cleaning is often being drawn in and blown out by the system.
  • A cold room after restumping Restumping can loosen underfloor runs from their outlets.
  • A stuffy apartment when the system runs Compact apartment systems recirculate a lot of air, and a clogged filter makes it feel stale.
  • A dark, clogged return-air grille Inner-west dust shows up on the return air first.

Repairs

Duct repair & replacement in Footscray

Ducting fitted into old cottages has to bend around stumps, pipes and joists, and runs get squashed when other trades work under the house. A cold room is often the giveaway.

We photograph any damage while cleaning, explain it simply and quote the repair before we touch it. If it’s one loose run, that’s all we’ll quote.

Duct repair & replacement across Melbourne

Duct cleaning vs duct replacement: which do you need?

What we check and fix

  • Crushed, torn or disconnected ducts found and photographed
  • Repairs quoted before any work
  • Whole runs replaced only when they’re past saving
  • Outlet boots, grilles and return-air fittings refitted or replaced
Heating

Ducted heating cleaning before a Footscray winter

Footscray’s weatherboards and brick cottages lose heat quickly, and on cold nights the heating runs for hours. Any port or freight dust sitting in the ducts is blown straight into the room.

Cleaning before winter clears the outlets, ducts and filter. In apartments, a fresh filter after the clean keeps the inner-west dust at bay for longer.

What you get

A whole-system clean — not just the vent covers

In cottages with underfloor ducting we check what we can see of each run from the outlet, because tight subfloors are where crushed ducting usually hides.

  • Free inspection of your system before we start
  • Every outlet and grille cleaned
  • The full duct run cleaned
  • Return-air duct, grille & filter cleaned
  • Dust captured by negative-pressure vacuum collection
  • Optional sanitise & deodorise
  • Damaged or disconnected ducts photographed and explained
  • Before & after photos of the work

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Cannot find your answer? We pick up 7 days a week — straight answers, no pressure. 04 3191 8137
We live near a truck route. Is that black dust getting into our ducts?

Some of it, yes. Fine traffic dust is drawn in through the return air and settles on the filter and in the ducts. A clean and a fresh filter clear it.

Our cottage was restumped. Could that have disturbed the ducts?

It can. When a floor is relevelled, underfloor ducting can pull away from its outlets. We check the runs we can reach and photograph anything loose.

Can you clean before we sell or lease?

Yes. We photograph every outlet before and after, which you can share with your agent or property manager.

How often should we clean near a busy freight route?

Every one to two years, with a check of the return-air filter in between.

Can dirty ducts cause a musty smell?

Yes. Dust and debris in the ducts and on the return-air filter hold odours, and damp ducts can grow mould. A whole-system clean removes the build-up; if there’s a moisture problem behind it, we’ll show you.

Do you clean commercial premises?

Yes — offices, clinics, shops and strata common areas. Tell us about the site in the form and we’ll arrange an inspection and quote.

When do I pay?

After the job is done and you’ve seen the before & after photos. Cash, card or bank transfer.

What if I’m not happy?

Tell us. If something isn’t right, we come back and re-clean — that’s our 100% satisfaction commitment.

Are your technicians insured and police-checked?

Yes. Police-checked technicians, NDIS Worker Screening checks, and full public liability and business insurance.
