Amaroo is a newer Gungahlin estate where solar, ducted reverse-cycle and tight roof spaces all share the same ceiling cavity. FreshDuct services it without creating new problems.
Solar on the roof and ducting underneath? Both need to be worked around properly.
Amaroo belongs to the later phase of the Gungahlin build-out, and its housing reflects the way estate homes have been built over the past couple of decades: larger floor plates on smaller blocks, low roof pitches, generous insulation, and ducted reverse-cycle as the default system. Solar has been added to a large proportion of these roofs since, either at construction or in the years after.
The consequence is a roof space that is genuinely crowded. Ducting, thick ceiling insulation, solar cabling and inverters, and various other services all occupy a cavity with limited headroom to begin with. Duct runs get squeezed against rafters, buried under insulation, or pushed aside by work done for something else entirely. Every one of those costs airflow, and none of them is visible from inside the house — the occupant simply notices that a bedroom at the end of the run never quite matches the living area.
Working in that environment carefully is most of the skill. We plan access before we start, camera the runs to find where they are actually being pinched rather than guessing, clean the full path including the return, and put insulation and services back the way we found them. What we will not do is fix an airflow problem by creating a thermal one, and we photograph the roof space so you can see the condition it was left in.
The things we look at first in a Amaroo home — based on the local housing, climate and systems people actually run.
Low roof pitches and heavy insulation leave ducting very little room. Runs get pinched against rafters or buried, which costs airflow steadily and shows up as one room that never matches the rest.
In estates with continuing development nearby, fine dust settles into ducting and loads filters faster than in a settled suburb. Newer homes benefit from a first clean earlier than the manual suggests.
With reverse-cycle as the default system, the coil and drain tray are where odour and biofilm develop. They are the least inspected part of a modern installation and the most common source of the smell people report.

It is easy to improve airflow in a modern roof space by moving insulation out of the way and leaving it there. That trades a comfort problem for an energy one, and the owner will not find out until the next bill.
We restore insulation coverage and put services back as we found them, and we photograph the cavity before and after so the state we left it in is a matter of record rather than assurance.

In this style of construction it is usually the duct run to that room being pinched, buried under insulation or poorly supported in a crowded roof space, so the airflow arriving is well below what the system is producing. We camera the runs and measure airflow at each outlet, which normally identifies the specific pinch point.
It should not, and we plan for it. We work out the access route before starting, keep clear of solar cabling and inverters, and restore insulation coverage before we leave. We photograph the roof space before and after so the condition it was left in is documented rather than described.
