Air duct cleaning in Kew

Hills, history and big systems

Kew, in the City of Boroondara, climbs from the Yarra River and Studley Park up to the Junction. Along with its Victorian, Edwardian and interwar homes, it has plenty of houses built into slopes, with a lower level or an under-house storey facing the garden.

Homes like that often have ducting that runs between levels or through an under-house space, and those runs are the hardest to reach and the easiest to forget. Under-house areas near the river can also be damp.

Older roofs among Kew’s big trees are popular with possums, and possums are hard on ducting. We find chewed jackets and nesting material more often here than in newer suburbs.

Local homes

How Kew homes are usually set up

Homes built into a slope

A lower level or under-house storey with ducting running between floors. Those runs are where sags and kinks usually hide.

Period homes

Floor outlets with underfloor ducting in the original rooms, sometimes with ceiling ducts in a later addition.

Apartments near the Junction

Ducted reverse cycle in ceiling bulkheads, where the small return-air filter needs regular attention.

What we find

Three things we see a lot in Kew

1

Runs between levels

Ducting that climbs or drops between floors sags over time, and the rooms on the lowest or highest level feel it first.

2

Possums in older roofs

Possums chew duct jackets and nest around the runs. We photograph any damage we find.

3

Damp under-house spaces

Lower levels near the river can be damp, and damp dust in the ducts smells musty when the heating starts.

Quick self-check

Signs a Kew home is due for a duct clean

  • The lower level is always cooler Long runs down to a lower floor are prone to sagging and leaks.
  • Scratching in the roof at night If possums have been in the roof, the ducting is worth checking.
  • A musty smell from the downstairs outlets Damp dust in under-house runs smells stale when the system starts.
  • A clogged apartment return-air filter In bulkhead systems the small filter clogs quickly and is easy to forget.

Repairs

Duct repair & replacement in Kew

Between-level runs that have sagged, ducting chewed by possums and under-house sections damaged by damp are the repairs we see most in Kew.

We photograph any damage while cleaning, explain it and quote the fix before we touch it. Damp or soiled sections are replaced rather than cleaned.

Duct repair & replacement across Melbourne

Duct cleaning vs duct replacement: which do you need?

What we check and fix

  • Crushed, torn or disconnected ducts found and photographed
  • Repairs quoted before any work
  • Whole runs replaced only when they’re past saving
  • Outlet boots, grilles and return-air fittings refitted or replaced
Heating

Ducted heating cleaning before a Kew winter

Kew’s larger homes take a lot of heating, and the lower levels of hillside houses are often the coldest rooms. Whatever has settled in the ducts gets blown through every floor.

A clean before winter clears the outlets, runs and filters, and a check of the between-level runs makes sure the downstairs rooms get their share.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Cannot find your answer? We pick up 7 days a week — straight answers, no pressure. 04 3191 8137
Our house is built into a slope with a lower level. Can you reach those ducts?

Yes. We clean through every outlet on each level and reach as much of the between-level runs as we safely can, then show you photos of anything we couldn’t reach.

Possums have been in our roof. Should we check the ducts?

It’s worth it. We look for chewed jackets and nesting material in the runs we can reach, photograph it and quote any repair. Removing the possums is a job for a licensed wildlife controller.

Do you clean apartments near Kew Junction?

Yes. We clean ducted reverse cycle in apartments and work with building managers on access and parking.

Our downstairs rooms are always colder. Is that the ducts?

Often. Long runs down to a lower level sag and leak over time. We check the airflow on each floor and photograph any problem runs.

Do you clean evaporative and refrigerated cooling ducts too?

Yes. We clean ducted gas heating, evaporative cooling and refrigerated or reverse-cycle systems — the outlets, ductwork and return air — and quote each system upfront.

How long does it take?

Typically 1.5 to 2 hours for a home, depending on the number of outlets and how much build-up there is.

When do I pay?

After the job is done and you’ve seen the before & after photos. Cash, card or bank transfer.

What if I’m not happy?

Tell us. If something isn’t right, we come back and re-clean — that’s our 100% satisfaction commitment.

Are your technicians insured and police-checked?

Yes. Police-checked technicians, NDIS Worker Screening checks, and full public liability and business insurance.
