Daikin split or ducted system playing up?

Daikin aircon repairs in Sydney: independent technicians, quoted first

Daikin splits and ducted systems fail in familiar ways in Sydney: drains that cannot keep up with a humid summer, outdoor units rusting near the beach, inverter boards that give up after a run of hot days. Our independent technicians trace the actual fault and confirm the part for your model. You get a quote to approve before any work starts.

Daikin symptoms that are worth a technician’s visit

Any one of these is worth a call. They rarely fix themselves.

It runs all afternoon but the air is barely cool
Water dripping from the indoor head on a muggy evening
The remote or indoor unit shows a fault code and the light keeps flashing
Rust spreading on the outdoor casing or coil near the coast
The outdoor unit starts, stops, then tries again a few minutes later
A ducted Daikin cools some rooms and leaves others warm

Daikin not cooling: separating the usual causes

Weak cooling on a Daikin has a short list of causes that all look the same from the couch: matted filters and a dirty indoor coil, an outdoor coil packed with dust, a slow refrigerant leak, a tired outdoor fan motor, a sensor reading wrong, or an inverter board holding the compressor back.

The technician works through them in order: airflow, pressures and temperatures, then fan speeds. If the coil and barrel fan are simply clogged, a proper split system clean in Sydney is the fix, not a repair. If the charge is low, there is a leak somewhere, and our aircon regas service finds and repairs it before the system is recharged.

Water leaks in Sydney’s humid months

On a sticky February night a wall split pulls a lot of water out of the air, and every drop leaves through a narrow drain hose. Slime in that hose, a hose kinked behind the wall, a stopped condensate pump in an apartment, or a head tilted on its bracket sends the water down the wall instead. A coil that ices up from low refrigerant does the same as it thaws, so a water leak is sometimes a refrigerant problem in disguise.

On a ducted Daikin the indoor unit usually sits in the roof over a drain tray, and a blocked drain often shows first as a brown stain on a ceiling. Turn the system off and book us.

Fault codes, inverter boards and getting the right part

When the remote or indoor unit shows a fault code, take a photo of it and of the model sticker on the side of the indoor unit, and send both to us when you book. We do not guess what a code means over the phone: the same code can come from a sensor, a connection or a board, and the technician confirms which on site.

On an inverter Daikin, a board in the outdoor unit controls the compressor speed. Heat, moisture, a power surge, corrosion or insects nesting in the casing can all take it out. Before a board is replaced, the technician checks the compressor and looks for what damaged the old one, or the new board fails the same way.

Many parts differ between Daikin models and generations, so we check part availability for your model as part of the quote, not halfway through the job.

Salt air and the outdoor unit

In beachside suburbs like Bondi, Maroubra, Manly and Cronulla, salt settles on everything outside, and the outdoor unit takes the worst of it. Over the years it eats into coil fins, copper joints and terminals, ending in crumbling fins, pinhole leaks and failed connections. Our guide to air conditioning near the coast covers how to slow it down. In short: with the isolator off, rinse the outdoor coil gently with a garden hose now and then, never a pressure washer.

Independent technicians, straight about warranty

FreshDuct is an independent business. We are not Daikin and we do not act for Daikin. If your system is still inside the manufacturer’s warranty period, contact the manufacturer or your installer first: warranty repairs go through them, and outside work can affect a claim. Once it is out of warranty, we are glad to help.

On repair or replace: a fan motor, capacitor, sensor, drain pump or board that can still be sourced is usually worth fixing. A failed compressor on an older system, a coastal coil corroded right through, or an old system on R22, a refrigerant that has been phased out and is now scarce and expensive, pushes it the other way, and we say so before you spend anything. Another brand too? Our air conditioner repairs in Sydney page covers the rest.

A split system is two boxes joined by two copper lines and a drain. The refrigerant in those lines moves heat rather than making it: out of the house in summer, into the house in winter. The drain carries the condensation the indoor unit collects outside.

What you actually get

What a Daikin repair visit actually covers

The diagnosis is the visit. Any repair and its parts are quoted first, and only go ahead once you approve.

Included as standard

  • Model and serial number recorded, and any fault code photographed
  • Indoor unit: filters, coil, fan, drain and sensors checked
  • Outdoor unit: coil, fan, terminals and board checked for heat damage and corrosion
  • Refrigerant pressures and temperatures measured by a licensed refrigeration technician
  • Power supply, isolator and wiring checked
  • Part availability for your model checked as part of the quote
  • Before and after photos, and the fault explained plainly
  • A run test in cooling and heating once the repair is made

And the things we will not do

  • Represent ourselves as Daikin, or skip telling you to check an in-warranty unit with the manufacturer
  • Swap a board without finding out what killed the last one
  • Recharge a leaking system and call it repaired
  • Start any repair before you have approved the quote
How it works

From a flashing light to a cool room again

1. Send us the details

Model number from the indoor unit sticker, rough age, any fault code, and where the outdoor unit sits.

2. Diagnosis at your place

Both units tested, the cause traced and shown to you with photos.

3. Part checked, then the quote

The part is confirmed for your model. The technician inspects and quotes before any work, and you approve first.

4. Repaired, tested, then paid

The repair is made, the system runs in both modes, and you pay after the job.

Daikin repair questions from Sydney owners

Are you Daikin’s own service team?

No. FreshDuct is an independent business and our technicians are not Daikin staff. We repair Daikin systems that are past their warranty period.

My Daikin is still under warranty. Should I call you?

Contact the manufacturer, or the company that installed the system, first. Warranty repairs go through them, and work by another party can affect a claim. If the warranty has ended or a claim is declined, we can take a look.

The remote is showing a fault code. What does it mean?

Take a photo of the code and of the model sticker on the indoor unit, and send them to us when you book. The same code can come from a sensor, a connection or a board, so we do not diagnose it over the phone. The technician checks it on site.

How much does a Daikin repair cost?

It depends on the fault and the part. You approve the quote before any work starts. There is no call-out fee and you pay after the job.

Can you still get parts for an older Daikin?

Often, but not always. We check part availability for your model as part of the quote, so you hear it first if it is no longer made.

Do you repair ducted Daikin systems?

Yes. The fault is often the drain tray in the roof space, a zone damper, the wall controller or the outdoor unit.

Why does my Daikin leak water inside?

Usually a blocked or dropped drain hose, a stopped condensate pump, or a unit that has tilted on its bracket. A coil icing up from low refrigerant can also leak as it thaws, so the technician checks the charge as well as the drain.
