Either way the heating vents through a steel flue and a terminal on a Colorbond roof, high up and out of sight, and nobody has been near it since the builder's trade left.
For a wood heater that is a problem from the first winter. Creosote begins to build the first night the heater is lit, and a new owner who assumes a new flue is a clean flue can carry a few seasons before anything is swept. For a gas fire the concern is different: the flue and terminal must stay clear for the appliance to vent safely, and on open ground the terminal is exactly where windblown dust and birds end up.
