Chimney Sweep & Cleaning in Tarneit

Tarneit's brand-new estates run on gas fires and freestanding wood heaters, all venting through steel flues two storeys up. FreshDuct sweeps the wood heater flues, checks the gas flue side and photographs the terminal.

First winter in a new Tarneit build? Have the flue and terminal looked at before the heater does a full season.

A flue that was fitted by the builder's trade and never looked at again is not the same as a flue that has been checked. Dust, birds and a first winter of creosote all arrive before the second one.
New Flues, First Checks

Sweeping and checking the flues in Tarneit's brand-new homes

Tarneit's streets were paddocks not long ago, and almost every home on them is a double-storey brick veneer built to current standards with a gas fire or a freestanding wood heater in the living room, and sometimes both. Either way the heating vents through a steel flue and a terminal on a Colorbond roof, high up and out of sight, and nobody has been near it since the builder's trade left.

For a wood heater that is a problem from the first winter. Creosote begins to build the first night the heater is lit, and a new owner who assumes a new flue is a clean flue can carry a few seasons before anything is swept. For a gas fire the concern is different: the flue and terminal must stay clear for the appliance to vent safely, and on open ground the terminal is exactly where windblown dust and birds end up.

Our Tarneit visit is a flue check as much as a sweep. Wood heater flues are swept full length with the baffle out and the firebox cleaned; the gas fire flue path is inspected and cleared by us, with the appliance itself handled by the licensed gas specialists we arrange. The terminal is checked from the roof, two storeys up, and photographed so you know it is clear and secure.

Local Know-How

Chimney Sweep & Cleaning in Tarneit: what is different here

Gas fires, flue side

Many Tarneit living rooms have a gas fire rather than a wood heater. We inspect and clear the flue and terminal so combustion gases have a clean path out; servicing of the appliance goes to the licensed gas specialists we arrange.

The first sweep, not the fifth

A wood heater in a new build starts laying creosote on its first evening. An early sweep is small, tidy and photographed; leaving it until the flue is struggling turns the same job into a descale. We camera it so you can see the difference.

Dust off streets still being built

Tarneit is still being built out, and grit off open ground settles on the cowl and down the top of the flue. We clear it at the terminal before the sweep so it is not brushed onto the baffle, and the camera confirms the flue is clear.

Checked From the Roof

Nobody has looked at this flue since handover

A new flue is only as good as its installation, and the roof is where that shows. We inspect the terminal, the flashing and the top sections while we are there for the sweep, and photograph each of them.

If everything is right you get the photos and a clean report. If the terminal is full of dust or a flashing has lifted, you find out from us, with a price, rather than from a stain on the ceiling.

FAQs

Chimney Sweep & Cleaning in Tarneit — questions answered

Our Tarneit house is only a couple of winters old and the wood heater has never been swept. Is that too late?

No, but it is time. A couple of winters of creosote is a normal sweep; leave it several more and it becomes glaze. We sweep the flue with the baffle out, camera it, check the terminal from the roof and photograph the lot so you have a baseline.

We only have a gas fire in our Tarneit home. Do you do anything for that?

The flue side, yes. We inspect the flue path and the terminal on the roof, clear dust, debris or nesting that has found its way in, and confirm the path is open. Work on the gas appliance itself is done by the licensed gas specialists we arrange.

How often should a chimney be swept?

Fire authorities recommend an annual sweep before winter. If you burn most nights, burn unseasoned or soft wood, or run a heater on low for long periods, sooner.

Is chimney sweeping messy?

Not with FreshDuct. We lay drop sheets, seal the fireplace opening and use contained, high-power vacuuming so the soot is captured rather than left in your living room.

What is the difference between a sweep and a deep clean?

A standard sweep clears regular soot and light creosote. A deep clean tackles heavy, baked-on or glazed creosote that a normal brush will not shift.
