Semaphore is one of Adelaide’s genuinely historic seaside places — a port-side beach suburb whose main street still carries its late-Victorian and Federation shopfronts, backed by streets of 1890s to 1920s cottages, villas and the occasional grand old residence. It is old housing stock sitting directly in a marine environment, and that combination is unusual.
