Redevelopment along Lonsdale Street has changed how Braddon looks without changing what is inside its older houses. The three things we find most often in an original inner-north flue are a bird or possum nest, degraded parging where the mortar has fallen away inside, and a top that was capped or rendered during a re-roof so it no longer draws. None of them are visible from the fireplace.
