Weston is one of the founding suburbs of the Weston Creek district, laid out and built through the late 1960s and 1970s in the style of the period: brick homes on regular blocks, generous roof cavities, and street planting that has now had five decades to establish. Its housing profile changed materially on 18 January 2003. The ACT Emergency Services Agency records that the fires that day destroyed about 500 homes across the Territory, with the Weston Creek district among the worst affected, and the rebuilding that followed put a generation of early-2000s houses into streets otherwise made of 1970s ones.

That gives Weston an unusual mechanical split for a suburb that looks uniform from the street.
