Kelvinator split system installation in Melbourne that keeps the warranty intact

Kelvinator sells its air conditioners through retailers, and its Australian site has a where-to-buy page but no installer finder – its FAQ leaves sizing and installation to “your dealer or licensed installer”. So a typical Kelvinator job in Melbourne starts the same way: the box is on the floor, the receipt is in the drawer, and the next step is unclear. That is the job this page is for. You tell us the model on the box and which wall it is going on, and the office gives you a free estimate for the installation alone.

Install-only is a full install, not a lesser one. The indoor unit goes on a level wall plate, the outdoor unit on a bracket or a slab, the pipe run is insulated and sealed in a duct cover, the lines are pressure tested and vacuumed before the refrigerant valves are opened, and the electrical connection is made by a licensed electrician on a circuit that can carry it. Kelvinator publishes the installation requirements for each model – pipe sizes, wiring and the manual – and we follow them, because that is what the warranty is judged against.

Kelvinator’s own FAQ is blunt about this: an under-sized or over-sized air conditioner is not a warranty matter, and it will not be replaced under warranty because it does not cope. That puts the sizing decision on you and your installer, before the sale. Floor area is only the start. A north- or west-facing room in a brick veneer with big windows and no ceiling insulation carries far more summer load than the same floor area on the shaded side of a double-brick period home. Ceiling height matters in older homes with 3 metre ceilings. Whether the door stays open to a hallway matters. The same Kelvinator FAQ says every one of its units, split or window-wall, is designed as a room air conditioner for a single room – one unit will not do a whole house or two rooms through a doorway. Call before you buy and the office will tell you which size to ask the retailer for. Call after you buy and we will still tell you the truth: if it is right, we install it; if it is wrong, we say so and you can swap it while the box is unopened. Kelvinator is an Electrolux brand sold through retailers. At the time of writing its Australian site lists a 3.5 kW reverse cycle wall split with wireless connectivity as the current model, with the earlier 2.5, 5.0 and 7.1 kW models in the same family marked discontinued – though retailers may still have stock, and we install those too. Model line-ups change, so the office checks what is available on the day you ask.

The current model’s published features: an inverter compressor, a DC fan motor with twelve fan speeds, HEPA and ion filters, a concealed dimmable display, auto swing, a backlit remote and a 24 hour timer. It runs on R32 refrigerant and is rated to operate in outdoor temperatures from minus 15 to 50 degrees. It is demand-response capable, which matters if your electricity retailer signs you up to a demand-response program. Wi-Fi models pair with the Kelvinator Home Comfort app so you can turn the unit on before you get home – we set that up on the day if you want it.

On warranty, Kelvinator publishes a five-year parts and labour domestic warranty on its split systems, and its FAQ explains how it is made up: two years as standard, plus an extra three years when the unit is installed by a licensed installer. Rental properties. Kelvinator is a common choice for landlords and property managers when a bedroom or living room needs heating and cooling without a premium price on the unit. Replacing a Kelvinator window-wall unit. Kelvinator also makes the box units that sit in a wall or a window frame, and a lot of Melbourne flats and older homes still have one. Swapping it for a split means the wall opening is closed and weatherproofed, the new indoor unit goes on a clean wall, and the outdoor unit goes outside where the noise belongs.
