Daikin’s warranty card is blunt about what it does not cover: damage caused by incorrect or poor installation, and faulty or incorrect external electrical wiring. In other words, the 5-year parts and labour warranty Daikin gives on domestic split systems purchased and installed in Australia only holds if the install is done properly. That is the part we take seriously, because a Daikin hung in the wrong place is just an expensive white box.
Placement first. The Alira X, Cora and Zena all use Coanda airflow, which streams air along the ceiling for a longer throw before it drops. That only works if the indoor unit has clear ceiling in front of it – not a pendant light, not the top of a wardrobe. We look at the wall, the ceiling line and where the afternoon sun comes in before we pick the spot. Outside, the condenser goes where it can breathe, drain and be serviced: on a bracket against a brick veneer wall, on a slab beside a weatherboard, never wedged behind a fence with the fan blowing into the palings.
Then the mechanics. The refrigerant lines are run in a duct cover and brazed, the system is vacuumed down and held before a gram of refrigerant is released, the condensate drain is run to a proper fall, and a licensed electrician runs a dedicated circuit from your switchboard. The technician commissions the unit in both heating and cooling, and you get the photos.
