Where a Fujitsu tends to be the answer

Tick two or more and it is time to book — every one of these gets worse, never better, on its own.

You had a Fujitsu that lasted fifteen years and want another one – but the name on the box has changed
A big single room – a rumpus, a converted garage, an open-plan extension – that needs 8.5 or 9.5 kW from one wall unit
A holiday house or granny flat that needs to be kept from getting cold and damp while it sits empty
A living room where the unit runs all evening for nobody because the last person out never turns it off
A bayside suburb where the last outdoor unit rusted out years early
A bedroom unit that must be quiet enough to sleep under
A gas wall heater in the lounge you want gone before winter
An online quote for a Fujitsu that never mentioned the circuit, the bracket or the pipe run

Fujitsu General is now GENERAL Australia: what changed and what did not

If you have searched for Fujitsu and landed on a website called GENERAL, you are in the right place. After Fujitsu General Limited was acquired by Paloma Rheem Holdings in August 2025, Fujitsu General Australia changed its business name to GENERAL Australia from 1 January 2026, its Fujitsu Assist support line became General Assist, and the old fujitsugeneral.com.au address sends you straight to the new site. It is the same business and the same “Australia’s Favourite Air” line it has used for years.

What did not change is the part that matters to you. The wall-mounted ranges keep their names – Lifestyle, Lifestyle Next and Comfort – and the model codes people have known for a decade, the ASTG and ASTH numbers, carry on. GENERAL states a five-year full parts and labour warranty for all domestic air conditioning systems sold in Australia, and warranty claims go through General Assist with the indoor and outdoor model numbers, the install date and who installed it. We hand you all of that on the day.

GENERAL says it will keep selling under both the Fujitsu and General Airstage brands while it moves away from the Fujitsu name over time, so the unit on your wall may say Fujitsu, GENERAL or both. Either way, when you ask us for a Fujitsu, we know what you mean, and the unit we quote is the current one.

Lifestyle or Comfort: picking the range

The Lifestyle range is the full-featured wall unit: reverse cycle in 2.5, 3.5, 5.0, 6.0, 7.1, 8.5, 9.4 and 9.5 kW, on R32. GENERAL’s own page groups the models the way we do on the phone – the 2.5 and 3.5 kW for small rooms, the 5.0 to 7.1 kW for mid-size rooms, and the 8.5 and 9.4 kW for larger rooms. It carries the Human Sensor, Economy mode, the 10 degree heat setting, an Apple-Catechin filter and a Super Quiet fan mode, and the outdoor unit has a Blue Fin treated heat exchanger for corrosion resistance.

The Comfort range is the simpler sibling: reverse cycle in 2.5, 3.4, 4.2, 5.0, 6.0, 7.1, 8.5 and 9.5 kW, also on R32, with half-degree temperature steps, a 20 minute Powerful mode, the same Blue Fin outdoor coil and the same warranty. It gives up the Human Sensor and the 10 degree heat mode. For a bedroom or a rental where nobody will use those, it is the sensible choice. A cooling-only Comfort range exists too.

The Lifestyle Next (2.5 to 9.5 kW) adds GENERAL’s anywAiR Wi-Fi adaptor as standard, with app control, scheduling and geofencing through the myanywAiR Next app. GENERAL sells it only through its retail partners, so when you ask for it we tell you straight whether we can supply it that week or whether the standard Lifestyle with a controller option is the better path. Our sizing guide and single-versus-multi guide cover the size and the number of units.

The features that matter in a Melbourne winter

Two Lifestyle features are worth understanding before you choose, because they are the reason to pay for that range over the Comfort. The first is 10 degree heat operation: the unit can be set to hold the room at no less than 10 degrees, which GENERAL describes as ideal for cold climates. In Melbourne that means a holiday house on the Peninsula, a granny flat between tenants or a home office at the end of the garden can be kept from going cold and damp for very little power while nobody is there.

The second is the Human Sensor, which detects movement in the room. Paired with Economy mode, it is the fix for the family lounge that runs at full tilt all evening for an empty couch. The Lifestyle is also built for demand response programs, so if your electricity retailer runs one, the unit can take part.

Both ranges heat as well as cool, and a correctly sized unit will replace a gas wall heater in a Melbourne lounge outright. If that is the job, it may attract a Victorian Energy Upgrades discount, which we arrange through our accredited installation partners, and the old gas line is capped by a licensed gasfitter. Our VEU heating and cooling page sets out how the discount comes off the quote.

Big units, bayside suburbs and the electrical side

The thing GENERAL does that most brands do not is offer a single wall unit at 8.5, 9.4 or 9.5 kW – the Lifestyle ASTG30 and ASTG34 and the Comfort ASTH30 and ASTH34. That is the unit for a rumpus room, a converted garage or an open-plan extension that would otherwise need two smaller units and two outdoor boxes. It is also the unit that most often exposes an undersized switchboard. A licensed electrician runs a dedicated circuit for every split we install, and on the large sizes we check the board has the capacity and a spare way before the office quotes, not on the morning of the job.

If you live within a few kilometres of the bay – Brighton, Mordialloc, Williamstown, Altona – salt air is what killed the last outdoor unit. Both GENERAL ranges use a Blue Fin treated outdoor heat exchanger that the maker says improves corrosion resistance in coastal areas. We add to that by placing the outdoor unit where it is not in the direct wind off the water where we can, and by telling you honestly when an extra coating is worth paying for.

After the install, the same crews service and clean the units. Our Fujitsu split system service guide covers the common error codes and faults, and our split system cleaning service strips and washes the indoor unit when it loses its punch. The photos on this page come from that cleaning work in real Melbourne homes.

A single split is one outdoor unit and one indoor head for one room. A multi split runs several heads – here three rooms – off one outdoor unit, so the outside of the house carries one box instead of three, and each room still keeps its own remote and setting.

What you actually get

What a Fujitsu install from us includes

Every line is part of the job, not a line on the invoice.

Included as standard

  • The current GENERAL (formerly Fujitsu) model confirmed with the supplier before the office quotes
  • Lifestyle or Comfort range matched to the room and to whether the sensor and 10 degree modes will actually be used
  • A switchboard check for capacity and a spare way on the large 8.5 to 9.5 kW sizes
  • Refrigerant lines brazed, insulated and run in a duct cover, then vacuumed and held before the valves are opened
  • A dedicated circuit from the switchboard by a licensed electrician, sized for the unit you chose
  • Commissioning in heating and cooling, with the Economy, Human Sensor and 10 degree modes set up with you
  • Indoor and outdoor model numbers, install date and installer details handed to you for the GENERAL warranty
  • Before and after photos, and on a replacement the old Fujitsu removed and taken away

And the things we will not do

  • Sell you the Lifestyle for features a bedroom will never use, or the Comfort for a holiday house that needs the 10 degree mode
  • Promise app control on a range that does not come with it
  • Hang a 9.5 kW unit on a switchboard that cannot carry it
  • Open the valves on a pipe run that has not been vacuumed and held
  • Firm up a price from a photo – the office confirms it before any work
How it works

From a phone call to a warm room

1. Tell us the room

Room size, what is on the wall now, whether it is a holiday house or a rental, and whether a gas heater is coming out. The office gives you a free estimate over the phone.

2. Range, size and firm price

We confirm the current GENERAL model with the supplier, the office confirms the price before any work, and books a time 7 days a week.

3. Install day

Bracket, pipe run, dedicated circuit, vacuum, refrigerant and commissioning. A single back-to-back install is usually a morning; a 9.5 kW unit on a long run is a day.

4. Photos, walkthrough, then you pay

You see the finished job, we set the modes up with you and hand over the warranty details, and you pay after the job.

Straight answers

Fujitsu and GENERAL questions, answered straight

Is Fujitsu still sold in Australia?

Yes. Fujitsu General Australia has traded as GENERAL Australia since 1 January 2026, the old fujitsugeneral.com.au web address redirects to the new site, and GENERAL says its products continue under both the Fujitsu and General Airstage brands as it moves away from the Fujitsu name over time. The Lifestyle and Comfort wall-mounted ranges continue under the GENERAL name with the same ASTG and ASTH model codes. When you ask us for a Fujitsu, the unit we quote is the current GENERAL model.

Does the name change affect the warranty?

GENERAL states a five-year full parts and labour warranty for all domestic air conditioning systems it sells in Australia. Claims go through General Assist, formerly Fujitsu Assist, and need the indoor and outdoor model numbers, the supply and install dates and the installer’s details. We give you every one of those on the day we finish.

What size Fujitsu do I need?

GENERAL’s own guidance for the Lifestyle range puts the 2.5 and 3.5 kW models in small rooms, the 5.0 to 7.1 kW models in mid-size rooms and the 8.5 and 9.4 kW models in larger rooms. Ceiling height, insulation and afternoon sun move a room up or down a size, so we confirm it from your measurements on the phone.

What is 10 degree heat operation?

A Lifestyle setting that holds the room at no less than 10 degrees for very little power. GENERAL describes it as ideal for cold climates; in Melbourne it suits a holiday house, a granny flat between tenants or a studio at the end of the garden, keeping the space from going cold and damp while it is empty.

What does the Human Sensor do?

It detects movement in the room, so the unit can ease back when nobody is there and pick up again when someone walks in. Combined with Economy mode it is the fix for a lounge that runs at full tilt for an empty couch. It is a Lifestyle feature; the Comfort range does not have it.

Can I control a Fujitsu from my phone?

The Lifestyle Next comes with GENERAL’s anywAiR Wi-Fi adaptor as standard and is sold through the company’s retail partners, so we tell you straight whether we can supply it. The standard Lifestyle and Comfort ranges list wired and wireless controller options rather than app control as standard, so we tell you before you order whether the model we can supply that week has it, and we will not promise app control on a unit that does not offer it.

How long does a Fujitsu split installation take?

A 2.5 to 7.1 kW unit on a back-to-back run is usually a morning. The large 8.5 to 9.5 kW singles are a different job: heavier outdoor unit, larger pipe, a circuit sized for roughly four times the running current of a bedroom unit, and sometimes switchboard work first, so plan on the full day. The office tells you the time when they confirm the price.

Can a Fujitsu replace my gas wall heater?

Yes. Both ranges are reverse cycle – the 2.5 kW Lifestyle and Comfort units are rated at 3.2 kW heating and the 9.5 kW units at 10.3 kW – so one wall unit will heat anything from a bedroom to an open-plan living room for far less than a gas wall heater. When the gas heater is decommissioned the job may attract a Victorian Energy Upgrades discount, which we arrange through our accredited installation partners, and a licensed gasfitter caps the old gas line.

Do you also service and clean Fujitsu units?

Yes, the same crews. If an older Fujitsu has lost its punch, smells musty on start-up or is showing an error code, our Fujitsu service guide lists the common causes, and our split system cleaning service strips and washes the indoor unit. If it is beyond saving, we quote the replacement and take the old unit away.

Worth knowing

The detail, for people who like detail

Fujitsu split system installation Melbourne

FreshDuct supplies and installs Fujitsu wall-mounted split systems across metropolitan Melbourne – the Lifestyle, Lifestyle Next and Comfort ranges from the company now trading as GENERAL Australia – including the 8.5 to 9.5 kW singles most brands do not offer, fitted by licensed electricians and ARC-licensed technicians. Free estimate over the phone, a firm price from the office before any work, and you pay after the job.

Fujitsu General is now GENERAL Australia

The company behind Fujitsu air conditioners in Australia has traded as GENERAL Australia since 1 January 2026 and its support line is General Assist; products continue under the Fujitsu and General Airstage brands while the name changes over. The ranges, the ASTG and ASTH model codes and the five-year parts and labour warranty on domestic systems carry on. Ask us for a Fujitsu and you get the current GENERAL unit.

Lifestyle and Comfort ranges to 9.5 kW

The Lifestyle range runs from 2.5 to 9.5 kW with the Human Sensor, Economy mode and 10 degree heat operation; the Comfort range from 2.5 to 9.5 kW without them. Both are reverse cycle on R32 with a Blue Fin treated outdoor coil, and both offer a single wall unit large enough for a rumpus room or an open-plan extension.

Install, service and cleaning from one crew

Every install gets a dedicated circuit from a licensed electrician, a held vacuum before refrigerant goes in, commissioning in both modes and photos. Afterwards the same crews service and clean the unit, and our Fujitsu service guide covers the common faults and error codes for units already on the wall.
